Manual Drain Procedures
Tools Needed:
- Adjustable wrench
- Bucket or shallow pan
- Screwdrivers (flat and Phillips)
- Pliers
- Towels for cleanup
Step-by-Step Manual Drain Process
- Safety First: Turn off power to the dishwasher at the circuit breaker to prevent electrical shock.
- Access Drain Hose: Locate the drain hose at the back of the dishwasher or under the sink connection.
- Prepare for Water: Place a bucket or shallow pan under the drain connection to catch water.
- Disconnect Drain Hose: Carefully loosen the clamp and disconnect the drain hose from the pump or sink connection.
- Drain Water: Allow water to flow into the bucket. Tilt the hose to ensure complete drainage.
- Check for Clogs: Inspect the drain hose and pump for food particles or debris that may be causing blockages.
- Reconnect and Test: Reconnect the drain hose securely, restore power, and run a test cycle to ensure proper drainage.

Drain System Components
Drain Pump Assembly
The main pump responsible for removing water from the dishwasher tub during drain cycles. Features a durable impeller and sealed motor.
Drain Hose
Flexible reinforced hose that carries wastewater from the dishwasher to the household drain system. Resistant to kinks and clogs.
Filter System
Multi-stage filtration that prevents food particles from entering and clogging the drain pump and hose.
Check Valve
Prevents backflow of water from the drain system into the dishwasher tub, ensuring proper drainage.
Drain Solenoid
Electrically controlled valve that opens during drain cycles to allow water to flow to the pump.
Float Switch
Safety device that detects high water levels and prevents overflow by stopping water intake and activating drain.
Drain System Operation
Normal Drain Cycle
Automatically activates at the end of each wash cycle to remove dirty water
Emergency Drain
Manual activation to drain water during cycle interruptions or maintenance
Self-Cleaning
Automatic cleaning of filter system to prevent drain clogs and maintain efficiency
Error Detection
Monitors drain performance and alerts users to potential issues or blockages
Drain System Troubleshooting
Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
---|---|---|
Dishwasher not draining | Clogged drain hose, faulty pump, drain blockage | Check for clogs, clean filter, inspect drain pump |
Slow draining | Partial clog, kinked hose, pump issues | Inspect drain path, straighten hose, check pump performance |
Water remains in bottom | Drain hose too high, pump failure, clogged filter | Lower drain hose, check pump, clean filter system |
Drain error codes | Sensor issues, pump failure, electrical problems | Reset unit, check error code meaning, inspect components |
Unusual drain noises | Foreign objects in pump, worn bearings, loose parts | Inspect pump for debris, check for worn components |
Drain cycle too long | Restricted flow, pump struggling, high drain line | Check for restrictions, ensure proper drain height |
Drain System Error Codes
- DE: Drain Error - Check drain hose and pump for blockages
- OE: Overflow Error - Float switch activated, check for overfilling
- PE: Pressure Error - Water pressure issue in drain system
- LE: Motor Error - Drain pump motor malfunction
- FE: Filter Error - Clogged filter affecting drainage
- HE: Heating Error - Related to drain during heated cycles
