Emergency Drainage Procedure

When to Use Manual Drain:

  • Power outage during wash cycle
  • Drain pump failure
  • Drain hose blockage
  • Machine won't drain automatically
  • Moving or relocating the washer

Step-by-Step Manual Drainage

  1. Power Off: Turn off and unplug the washing machine from electrical outlet for safety.
  2. Locate Drain Hose: Find the drain hose at the back of the machine. It's usually gray and connected to the pump.
  3. Prepare Drain Area: Place a shallow pan or bucket under the drain hose connection point to catch water.
  4. Access Drain Filter: On most LG top load models, locate the drain filter cover at the front bottom of the machine.
  5. Open Drain Cap: Twist the drain cap counterclockwise to open. Water will start flowing out immediately.
  6. Drain Water: Allow all water to drain completely into your container. This may take several minutes.
  7. Clean Filter: Remove any debris or objects from the filter area before closing.
  8. Close Drain: Securely twist the drain cap back clockwise until tight.
  9. Clean Up: Wipe any spilled water and ensure area is dry before restoring power.
Warning: Never attempt to drain water while machine is plugged in. Water and electricity are dangerous combination.
